We can repair paintings on canvas, board, mixed media; contemporary and traditional.
Our treatments include:
Surface cleaning
Cleaning any dirt deposits that may be discolouring your painting or distracting from the image with appropriate cleaning solutions.
Varnish removal
Your art work may have a discoloured varnish that would benefit from removal and re- varnish in order to restore the vibrancy and definition of imagery.
Correction of planar deformation
Using heat and moisture treatments deformation in the surface can be flattened.
Tear repair
Tears can be repaired by traditional methods of bridging canvas threads to the rear of the work or thread by thread repair which involves the grooming of fibres using water or adhesives, twisting back to shape and gently pushing fibres through to the back with dental tools, tweezers and fine brush. Some re- weaving of long vertical fibres and bridging joints may be needed.
Consolidation of flaky paint
Using appropriate adhesives to the painting, paint flakes can be restored and stabilised
Filling and re-touching areas of loss
Areas on the painting that have paint losses can be levelled with filling material and colours matched to restore continuity of imagery and colour
Strip Lining
If your painting is no longer taught on the stretcher, it may require strip lining in order to stabilise and level
Varnishing
Varnishing your painting can increase colour gamut and contrast, allow details to be visible in dark areas and increase colour saturation.
We will always provide recommendations for care following treatments.
